Recce (Kenny Liew's run, July 24, 2012)

"Recce" is derived from the word "reconnaissance". Reconnaissance is the military term for exploring beyond the area occupied by friendly forces to gain information about enemy forces or features of the environment. It is about scouting the environment.

In hashing, we recce a run site to get a better idea of the area (if it is new), or just to ensure that nothing has changed in that area of late. Recceing the run site will make the run more enjoyable , minimizes mistakes and make the run a safer one.

Below: Eric instructing Mun Yau to tie the tape at sharp turns.

Below: Eric asking Stiff Stick whether bashing through the water stream and hill ahead will lead us home. Stiff Stick uses his Garmin GPS to give feedback to Eric.

Below: Mun Yau also bought a knife and is learning how to set runs from Eric.

Below: Eric asking Stiff Stick to check distance on his Garmin GPS to ensure that the run is not too short, nor too long.
