Fruits of hashing (1): Watermelon

After each hash run, without fail, watermelons are served. This occurs in all hash chapters that I have visited.

Just a slice or two of the juicy melon is sure to not only satisfy your sweet-tooth, but to also keep your thirst under control. A great source of H2O, electrolytes and B vitamins, watermelon is the fruit to grab while after an arduous hash run.

Just like we eat Watermelon to curb our thirst, so did Egyptians and those living in the Mediterranean 5,000 years ago. According to the World’s Healthiest Foods web site, people living in these areas relied on watermelon for its thirst-quenching component, since water was often in short-supply.

Full of Vitamins C and A and magnesium, Watermelon is rich in antioxidants lycopene and beta carotene, both of which fight cellular free radical damage and protect against cancer.

With only 48 calories, zero grams of fat and 10 grams of sugar in a cup, Watermelon is definitely a healthier choice than drinking a sports drink packed with calories and sugar.

We are what we eat, and hashers eat a huge amount of watermelon over the years. Fact: You are what you eat. Below are the watermelons some GH5 hashers have evolved into:
