We owe it to our love ones to place 'safety first'

Incredible Hulk
When I was abroad I received a SMS from James Bonk citing the 'powers of prayer' and I wondered what had ignited this spiritual fever. Then as I read further I realized a fellow hasher from another chapter had gone missing while recceing alone in Templer's Park. This  fellow hasher had gone into the jungle on Wednesday and had not returned.

On Saturday hundreds of fellow hashers and Bomba went in search of the guy. They didn't find him but apparently Sangwat found a shoe trail he had left up a waterfall trail, hence a clue of his whereabouts. It took a fit guy like Sangwat 2.5 hours to get to this area. They would return tomorrow and spearhead their search from this focal point.

On Saturday night I received a SMS from GM for hashers to be at Templer's Park at 8am the next morning to go for another search in the spirit of hash brotherhood. On Sunday afternoon as  I was boarding a flight home, the good news came that the hasher was found alive. The orang asli had found him with both legs broken and brought him out. Praise God!  He had survived for 4days. I am sure it is an ordeal he will never forget and kudos to the all the hashers who went in to search for him.

Yes James, prayers are indeed powerful. When we pray it moves the Hand of an omnipresent and omnipotent God who is loving and caring. I will now bear it in mind before each run to pray for the safe return of each runner; and after each run for the safety of next week's hare ad co-hares. I hope you all too will do your bit.

Recently a 70 year old hasher took the short cut home in a Hazard's run and did not follow the paper trail. He slipped and broke his femur. He went alone. It was only midnight that they managed to find him and bring him out.

I am sure God by whatever name you may call Him, will want to remind us hashers "safety comes first". We at least owe it to our love ones, if not ourself, to be vigilant and take maximal precautions for each run and each reccee we do. There are certain 'safety belts' that are mandatory. Try to run in pairs and the golden rule do not reccee alone especially where help and rescue is far away. Freak accidents can happen to the best hashers regardless of whatever precautions we take. We just have to make sure there is someone next  to, or behind us coming along in case anything happens, even if you have grandiose hash names like Ironman, Incredible Hulk, Ultraman  or Superman. None of us are invincible!

Meanwhile take care of your health. Each run I go to, mum would be worried especially if it rains. Every Tuesday night I get home from hash,  mum will be waiting and only go to sleep when I am back, so nowadays I leave by 10.30pm. With each run or recce you do, think of the love ones waiting for you at home, then you will surely be extra cautious each step you take in the jungle. We owe it to our wives, our parents, and our children; and may grace, love and peace abound in your homes on this very special Mothers' day. "Yes mum thanks for your love and care to the minutest of details. Be rest assured by God's grace and protection, I will always surely come home. I know that this is the best gift I can give you for Mother's day and it is the only gift that matters to you".

To mum and all mothers,
from Incredible Hulk
