FACTS
Our intestinal tract is colonized with nearly 400 species of microorganisms weighing around 2 kilograms. Among them is a group of bacteria which offer protective and nutritive benefits - the good bacteria. However, illness, drugs and other factors can deplete the body of these beneficial bacteria leading to digestive problems such as diarrhoea and indigestion. It also means that harmful micro-organisms can harbour in the intestinal tract. As expansive as the intestinal lining is, it provides only so much real estate for micro-organisms.
